Effective communication leads to academic and career success. The 英语学院 welcomes students of all English proficiency levels. Classes are taught by experienced instructors who will help you improve your skills in English while also learning academic success strategies along with how to use technology effectively in the classroom and in life.
Overview of 英语学院 Program - Class begin five times a year.
- ESL terms are approximately 7 weeks in length.
- Classes held daily Monday through Friday (fall and winter) or Monday through Thursday (Summer I term only).
- Intermediate to Advanced course levels for those with no English skills through those taking graduate courses.
- Students are placed into the appropriate ESL course level based on English proficiency test score (TOEFL, 雅思考试, PTE学术英语考试, Duolingo English Test) and/or the OU ESL placement test.
- Three courses offered at each level with seven hours of instruction per course per week.
- By earning a B-, students will move to the next course level.
- Matriculation if accepted for an academic program at Oakland University:
- 本科 students - completion of three Level 7 courses with a B- or higher (ESL 0077N, 英语0078牛, 和ESL 0079N).
- 研究生 students with qualifying proficiency test scores – completion of all Level 7 courses with a A- or higher (ESL 0077N, 英语0078牛, 和ESL 0079N), OR completion of all Level 8 course with a B- or higher (ESL 0087N, 英语0088牛, 和ESL 0089N).
- 21 hours of class time each week
- Students are encouraged to become involved in 校园活动.
- Instructors are available to encourage, help and support student learning.
- If an F-1 student, plan to attend for four terms (32 weeks) before taking a vacation semester.
- Students can begin taking academic classes along with ESL support courses if accepted to 新闻出版总署.
